Large
well defined lips are also one of today's signatures
of beauty and this same technique is used to augment
the lips of women of all ages. To add further definition
tothe heart shaped area of the upper lip, known as the
Cupid's Bow, the soft tissue implant is injected or
inserted into the vertical ridges between the upper
lip
and the nose.
Some cosmetic surgeons may also inject soft tissue implants
into the red fleshy part of the lips to plump them up.
The risk of hitting a small blood vessel exists and
if this should happen, crusting and loss of some lip
tissue may occur. It is for this reason, except in exceptional
circumstances, implants are best limited to the outline
of the lip. Even when an implant is injected along the
vermilion border of the lip, blockage of a blood vessel
may occur and scar may result.
How
much does it cost and who performs this procedure?
Cost
varies with the location, the expertise of the practitioner,
and the type and amount of implant used.
